Newish Bits

Focus Features has acquired North American distribution rights from Pathé to the drama Suffragette, directed by BAFTA Award winner Sarah Gavron from a script written by Emmy Award winner Abi Morgan, for a Fall 2015 domestic release. The cast of the U.K. film includes Academy Award nominees Carey Mulligan and Helena Bonham Carter, BAFTA Award winner Ben Whishaw, British Independent Film Award winner Anne-Marie Duff, Golden Globe Award nominee Brendan Gleeson, and three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep.

Variety has announced that Jack Huston will star in the remake of The Crow, playing Eric Draven, the role originated by the late Brandon Lee.

Marvel has announced, via Variety, that Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo will direct both parts Avengers: Infinity War.

Variety also broke the news that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will produce and star in the live-action Fraggle Rock movie.  Little is known about the current state of this project, which has been in production limbo for almost ten years now.

As reported by Deadline Andrew Dice Clay has signed a six-episode straight-to-series deal with Showtime for a scripted comedy called Dice.  Based on the information available this appears to be a similar format to Louie, Louis C. K.’s hit show on FX.

Box office results for the weekend of March 20-22

The Divergent Series: Insurgent opened strong, bringing in $52.2 million, this was however a little less than the studio had hoped.  Cinderella turned in a very strong second week with $32.9 million, which is not surprising.  Run All Night beat out The Gunman for action, and both snuck past Kingsman: The Secret Service which is now a veteran in the top five picking up an additional $4.6 million in its sixth week.  Few noticed Do You Believe? which had a quiet opening.  Meanwhile The Second Best Exotic Marigold HotelFocus, and Chappie are on box office life support, most will quietly continue their runs slipping into second run theaters before an early Blu-Ray/DVD release.  Finally, still hanging on, after seven weeks, a tenacious little sponge-man named Bob.  The field you see here will remain relatively unchanged as there are no strong challengers this week.

Coming Soon – Opening this week

Get Hard

The prison-bound manager (Will Ferrell) of a hedge fund asks a black businessman (Kevin Hart) — who has never been to jail — to prepare him for life behind bars.

After a hive-minded alien race called the Boov conquer the Earth, they relocate the planet’s human population — all except for a little girl named Tip (Rihanna), who’s managed to hide from the aliens. When Tip meets a fugitive Boov called Oh (Jim Parsons), there’s mutual distrust. However, Oh is not like his comrades; he craves friendship and fun. As their distrust fades, the pair set out together to find Tip’s mother, but, unbeknownst to them, the Gorg — enemies of the Boov — are en route.

New to Blu-Ray and DVD

That’s all folks, happy watching.
