Whoops! Popular Facebook Apps Found to Leak User Info

Decrease Font Size Increase Font Size Text Size Print This Page

The top ten most popular Facebook titles were discovered in a Wall Street Journal report today to be transmitting user IDs, which contain a plethora of information about the user and potentially their friends, to a number of internet advertisers and trackers. Those with every Facebook security setting enabled are still not safe from having their information leaked. If you have any of the following applications on your Facebook page, you’re at heavy risk:

  • FarmVille
  • Phrases
  • Texas Hold Em (Zynga version)
  • FrontierVille
  • Causes
  • Cafe World
  • Mafia Wars
  • Quiz Planet
  • Treasure Isle
  • IHeart

Facebook has since taken down a number of the offending titles, but as of this reporting the six offending Zynga titles still remain on the site. Surf at your own risk.
