Torchwood Miracle Day: The Trailer
Up until this point, all we have been able to see are teasers for Torchwood: Miracle Day, the new Starz Torchwood incarnation. Until now.
I’ve been singing the praises of Torchwood for a good long time now, and if you haven’t read any of my other previews, then it’s probably unlikely that you came across this one. Regardless, Starz has finally put up a full trailer for the Torchwood: Miracle Day series. The 10-part arc will start airing on July 8th of this year on… American television.
That’s right, Torchwood has skipped the pond, and will now be produced and aired on American television instead of British. It will be an interesting shift to see if the series is picked up by American audiences, whom seem to be a little more finicky about their science fiction, and paranormal television shows.
Torchwood is a spin off series from the iconic Doctor Who (note, torchwood is an anagram for “doctor who”) which originally aired in the UK on BBC3 in October of 2006. It’s themes were much much more raunchy than those of Doctor Who, and always focused on the paranormal and alien aspects of the Doctor Who universe. The show revolved around 6 main characters, who formed were employed by the Torchwood institute, to continue the Doctors work when he wasn’t around. Lead by Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman), and focusing largely on Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles) the majority of the rest of the cast will not be in the new Miracle Day series (for reasons you should watch the original series to understand)
Miracle Day tells the story of a very special day, when no one dies. And the next day, when still no one dies. And the next. And the next. An amazing Miracle, is quickly turned into a curse. Imagine, if you were horrifically burned to a pulp in a fire… but didn’t die. Or were being executed by lethal injection… but didn’t die.
Well, just head on over to Starz to watch the trailer. To me, it look epic. And I can’t wait.
