The Streaming Horror

Your weekly fix for horror fans, whether you’re a noob, or a master of horror.
All these movies can be found on Netflix Instant Watch, and all are worth watching no matter your experience level.

So here are my recommendations!

Noob: You’re new to the horror genre. Maybe you’re just curious. Either way you haven’t seen many horror movies and you want to build up your list. Here’s a movie that’s a must see.

The Evil Dead (1981)

The Evil Dead, may be the holy grail of all horror movies. This movie may have the biggest cult following of any movie ever. Hell they even made it into a musical. A group of young adults go to a cabin in the woods, they find an unholy book of the dead and read from it. The group then spends the night fighting off demons. Everyone must watch this movie once in their life! It’s where the all might Bruce Campbell got his start, as well as Spiderman director Sam Raimi. In fact, the two grew up together.

Overall Rating: 9.75 out of 10

Intermediate: So you’ve seen a fair amount of horror. In fact, you are the horror guy in your group of friends. Well here’s a pick for you.

Waxwork (1988)

I love the Waxwork series, and although the sequel is vastly different from this one, both are great. This movie played a lot of late nights on basic cable which means I’ve seen it countless times. With a directorial debut by Anthony Hickox whose only other movies worth mentioning (in my opinion) were the sequel to this movie, Waxwork: Lost in Time, Warlock: The Armageddon, and Hellraiser 3. The only star in this flick is Zach Galligan the star of Gremlins, and Gremlins 2.

This movie is about a group of teens who are sucked into the displays of a Wax Museum they are invited to. They encounter Vampires, Werewolves and the Marquis de Sade. Some make it back home alive, while others meet their doom inside the twisted wax worlds.

Overall Rating: 6.5 out 10 (maybe not as great as The Evil Dead, but still really worth watching a few times.)

Master: You’ve seen every horror movie worth a damn. You’re the guy your friends call around Halloween when they need the scariest horror movie ever made. You help them out even though they wind up with a copy of Paranormal Activity 3 and your undying hatred. Obviously you don’t need my recommendations cause you’ve seen it all, but here it is anyway on the chance one fell through the cracks!

C.H.U.D (1984)

Canabalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers,

New York City seems to have a problem with a group of  deformed vagrants living in the sewers. A police captain played by Christopher Curry, a photo journalist (John Heard), his girlfriend (Kim Greist), and a nutty bum (Daniel Stern) who seems to know a lot about the creatures, band together to try stop their murderous spree. This movie is a lesser known cult classic; it has a small but devoted following. This movie is goofy as all hell, and a lot of fun.

Overall rating: 7 out of 10

So there are my recommendations for you. Next week I’ll have three more. Enjoy these movies while you can ’cause these often don’t stay streaming forever!
