Coheed looks kinda like a gigantic pissed off Jesus doesn't he?BOOM! Studios and Evil Ink Comics have made a wish of mine come true this week. They’ve released a hardcover edition of Claudio Sanchez’s sci-fi epic The Amory Wars: The Second Stage Turbine Blade that collects all ten issues of the story arc and more into one 350 page tome. This makes me one happy consumer.

It’s no secret that I’m the resident Coheed & Cambria fan here on the website. I’ll pretty much buy anything that Claudio slaps his name on. That’s not to say that I don’t have discerning tastes or the ability to look at their works with a critical eye, because I can. I’m just really luckily with this product that I don’t have to.

Anyone who buys comics from more than one store can tell you that finding some of the more independent comics that don’t have a huge following like some of BOOM! Studios stuff, or even 12 Gauge Comics (the people who originally released the first series of The Amory Wars) a real pain in the ass. Needless to say, that until I picked up this book, my Amory Wars collection for the most part was lacking.

I had the first TPB of the first five books and 3/5 of the second volume, not to mention that I couldn’t even source where to find the two comics that made up The Bag On Line Adventures that were the beginning of The Amory Wars’s long trek into a full fleged series. Now, I have all 12 issues, but that’s not all. Claudio was cool enough to share with us a bit of bonus material in the story “33” which answers the question of “What ever happened to Josephine’s boyfriend after his run-in with the first of the Onstantine Priest?”

I love this series so much because it adds so much more depth to the story than you can get if you’re just a fan of the music…while at the same time proving that comics can have their own soundtrack. The fact that this 350 page epic is expanded from the band’s debut album that clocked in at 55 minutes is an amazing testament to the creative talent of Claudio Sanchez.

Now I can start counting down until they make another hardcover for their current storyline, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3.

Bottom Line: $29.99 / $29.99 and worth every penny.
