Steve Jobs Takes Medical Leave

According to this email, sent to all Apple employees, Steve Jobs is taking a leave from the company on concerns over health.

All we know is that this is never good. The last few times that he’s disappeared from the company, it’s been for some serious health concerns. We hope that he takes this time to ‘focus on his health’ and get better soon. Though there are those who wish him ill, I’m sure they mean it in jest, not for reals.

At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health. I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for all of Apple’s day to day operations. I have great confidence that Tim and the rest of the executive management team will do a terrific job executing the exciting plans we have in place for 2011.

I love Apple so much and hope to be back as soon as I can. In the meantime, my family and I would deeply appreciate respect for our privacy.

Normally, this kind of news goes unnoticed, but Apple’s success is uniquely entwined with how healthy Steve Jobs is. If you are in the market for Apple stock, I would watch this news closely.
