Read that topic again. Let that sink in. Now the first thing you’re thinking to yourself is “But wasn’t Speedy (and crew) considered to be a racist stereotype? How can they bring this to the big screen?”

The answer lies after the jump.

The horror is being brought to you by George Lopez and his wife Ann. The movie is said to be live-action crossed with CG for Speedy. This should sound very familiar because this technique was used in Garfield. However that’s not the only thing the Speedy movie will share with Garfield, as the same scriptwriters are involved.

George Lopez is not only the producer though as he will be also be providing the voice for Speedy. To finally put the frosting on the shit cake that this movie idea is, Speedy will be cleaned up from the original Loony Tunes version. That’s a nice way of saying politically correct. Says Ann Lopez:

“We wanted to make sure that it was not the Speedy of the 1950s — the racist Speedy. Speedy’s going to be a misunderstood boy who comes from a family that works in a very meticulous setting, and he’s a little too fast for what they do. He makes a mess of that. So he has to go out in the world to find what he’s good at.”

So I ask you gentle reader, did you find Speedy racist at all? Personally being Hispanic and growing up watching Speedy, I never thought it was racist. But then again, I didn’t get offended by the Taco Bell dog either. Let us know what you think about another of your childhood memories being raped by Hollywood.
