Sony to Charge for PSN?

Ok, people, please remain calm. There is no need to get panties in wads. Sony hasn’t actually come out and said that they’ll be charging $X.XX for subscriptions, but keep in mind that not only has there been proof from a Sony conference (see above), but two of their corporate officers have said as much.

Kaz Hirai has gone on the record as saying that they’re looking at charging for PlayStation Network access, now we have Peter Dille also saying to IGN that the company is “actively thinking about” it.

“It’s been our philosophy not to charge for [PSN] from launch up until now, but Kaz recently went on the record as saying that’s something we’re looking at…that we’re actively thinking about.”

I too was about to call bullshit on this, but after reading the interview, I’m honestly worried that I’ll have to be double billed to play games online (because I already have an Xbox Live Gold account) or have to choose one over the other. Christ aren’t they already making enough money off of us by charging a HD tax for our new games? Shit like this is precisely why I’m a few years away from going ALL RETRO ALL THE TIME.
