Sonic the Hedgehog Turns 20 Today
Though our history with him has been rocky to say the least, we can’t help but love the spastic blue needlemouse. Today, he finally leaves those awkward teens, and becomes a man.
While some kids in my neighborhood grew up with plumbers and princesses, I grew up with blast processing. My little mind was blown with how fast and smooth he traversed through roller coaster-eque levels. I even rejected birthday guests because my parents made the mistake of letting me open their present (Sonic the Hedgehog 2) first.
I have since grown cynical towards the series as it continued to promise and inevitably disappoint. Some say the Sonic team lost their touch when they brought him into the 3D plane. Perhaps the new millennium was no place for a chili-dog eating, smack-talking product of the nineties. Despite this, Sonic still remains a much treasured character even to this day.
So let us raise a pingas to Sonic for all he has accomplished over the years. Only one more year until you can get hammered, buddy.
