It’s not a big surprise but nontheless, I’m very excited to see Borderlands 2 has been confirmed by 2K this morning.

Borderlands 2 has been confirmed for PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 and will be released during Take Two’s next fiscal year, which begins on 1st April 2012. As you would expect, there will be more weapons, skills, equipment as well as new characters. The game itself still takes place on Pandora but it’ll be the “unexplored” parts so there should be plenty of new environments to loot.

There are no videos or screenshots yet (aside from the picture on the left which will be in the September issue of Game Informer) but the game will be fully unveiled during Gamescom and will also be at PAX Prime next month. I think it’s safe to say that all of us at WPR are looking forward to what Gearbox comes up with.

ORIGINAL STORY: According to Eurogamer, a source close to Gearbox has confirmed to the website that a sequel to 2009’s Borderlands is definitely in the works. If the source is truthful then 2K Games should be making an announcement soon and that the game will be released on PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 at some point next year.

It certainly wouldn’t come as a surprise given how many people loved Borderlands. The game’s had some extensive DLC since its release and Randy Pitchford has said in the past that Gearbox would like to revisit the Borderlands universe. However at the moment 2K or Gearbox have not responded and even if the game is announced, it may be awhile before we see it given the developer is currently working on Aliens: Colonial Marines and Brothers In Arms: Furious 4. Still, I’d certainly be happy with more shenanigans in the Borderlands universe so hopefully there will be an official confirmation soon.
