RightStuf and Nozomi Entertainment have announced merely seconds ago that they’ve acquired the rights to release the immensely popular 80’s science-fiction anime Space Adventure Cobra!

This marks the first time that the series has ever seen North American shores without requiring ludicrous import costs. The 31-episode series will be released as two DVD box sets and via digital distribution later this year. Pricing has not yet been announced, but from my experience with the distributor, I’d imagine they’d be very reasonable.

RightStuf will also be conducting an interview with Cobra’s original creator, Buichi Terasawa. If you have any questions you’re dying to ask the mind behind this influential series, you can submit questions to the official series site until February 15.

UPDATE: Since the series never received an official English release, the series will be brought to you in it’s original Japanese language with English subtitles. The release will, however, include the unreleased English-dubbed pilot episode. Besides, you wouldn’t want the series delayed even longer to put together an English dubbing team now, would you?
