Review: The Thermals – Not Like Any Other Feeling (7″)

The third single off of The Thermals’ 2010 LP Personal Life, Not Like Any Other Feeling is an extremely satisfying taste of the Portland trio. The titular single “Not Like Any Other Feeling” is a diversion from what we’ve come to expect from the band, with the bass guitar taking a very chunky lead this time around. The guitar only serves to accentuate the boisterous lyrics, and never covers the message singer Hutch Harris is trying to convey. The B-side “Everything I Want” is paired extremely well, as the intro features that same level of energy, gradually crescendoing into raw punk energy that comes off loud, yet abnormally sweet.

Even you already own the 2010 full-length Personal Life, Not Like Any Other Feeling is worth a listen. With a solid B-side and the ever-skillful mixing abilities of Death Cab for Cutie’s Chris Walla backing it up, Not Like Any Other Feeling is a solid addition to the Kill Rock Stars library.

Not Like Any Other Feeling releases on February 15th, but if you order directly from Kill Rock Stars you will receive a digital copy of the album by February 1st.
