For those of you that don’t already know Robert Rodriquez has gotten his hands on the rights to the Predator franchise and is planning a full reboot of the series starting with a film simply called Predators. Not much is known about the film and I’d personally written it off as film that would be talked about by Rodriquez  then never made, it looks like I might be wrong after all though because  Fox have announced this morning that they are planning to release the film on July 7 2010.

That’s summer tent pole season a time when some of the biggest films of the year are released which seems to indicate that Fox have got a lot of faith in the script and Nimod Antel the films director to fast track it for release, especially during the summer season.  The script has been written by Alex Litvak and Michael Finch and will apparently be set in the future focusing on a group of humans who crash land on an alien planet which is of course home to the Predators.

Now this is the sort of Predator movie that I would have loved to have seen years ago, a planet made by the Predators for gladiatorial combat  the survivors getting killed in interesting and violent ways.  As long as the script doesn’t feature stranded teenagers on an alien world I’ll be happy, no word on the casting yet but after Rodriquez got for the upcoming Machete movie, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a couple of well known names crop up  when the film starts shooting.
