Oddworld: Hand Of Odd is back from the dead

New Oddworld developers JAW were at the GameCityNights in Nottingham tonight and announced that they will be reviving Oddworld Inhabitants’ cancelled RTS game, Oddworld: Hand Of Odd. It sounds like the game will be built from the ground up and JAW are using a heavy design document from when the game was originally in development.

When asked about what the game’s direction will be, JAW want to go for what is successful for strategy games right, which is the likes of Farmville and Cityville or in other words, the casual approach. I wouldn’t consider those “games” to be in the strategy genre but it’s probably better for a game in the genre to be as accessible as it can be.

It’s early days yet though, and there won’t even be any screenshots for a while. No platforms have been officially announced either, although iPad, Android tablets, Facebook, PC and Mac are being looked at. Concerning Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, JAW echo what the general opinion is on RTS console games in that the controls often just don’t work very well.

The revived Oddworld: Hand Of Odd is due out next year and this writer very much hopes it’s at the Eurogamer Expo in September.
