Nintendo doesn’t believe in punching women

Recently Kotaku talked to the developers of the Wii version of Punch-Out! about a variety of things, including responsibilities among the different devs, the game’s graphics, features, and dificulty. But here at Media Whore Network, we try to focus on the important things, which is why this article is about hitting women. Well, not hitting women, actually.

If you have gotten far enough into Punch-Out!, you are aware that there is a certain famous Nintendo character that you fight. I won’t say who at risk of spoiling the game, but I will tell you who it is not, and that is Princess Peach. The funny thing is that at one point Nintendo was thinking about the inclusion of Peach, but as Nintendo producer Kensue Tanabe put it, “…the thought of punching women out made me give up my idea.”

I see where Nintendo is coming from, but let’s not act like gamers haven’t beaten up Peach in the past. Has anyone here played Super Smash Bros. Melee or Brawl? You did way worse to her in those games than punch her. And Ready 2 Rumble had you boxing women, and I did not feel bad at all. It’s boxing for Christ’s sake. Actually, maybe it’s a good thing that they left Peach out. Maybe they are saving her for a game where we can donkey punch her instead of punching her. Make it happen, Nintendo.

(Note: MWN does not in any way, shape, or form condone hitting women. If you hit women, you deserve to go to a jail where men treat you like the woman)
