New Hitman Title Confirmed With Teaser Trailer
IO Interactive has put up a teaser trailer today for the next Hitman game, titled Hitman: Absolution. The game is being built from scratch on a new engine that IO Interactive are calling Glacier 2. The game will be fully revealed at E3 but is being shown on an invitation basis only. The teaser trailer doesn’t reveal anything, and looks very much like it’s computer generated, but the highlighted 110706 in the trailer may indicate that it will be shown properly on the 7th June, which is E3 week anyway.
The plot synopsis for this game is that main protagonist Agent 47 will be betrayed by those he trusted and will find himself in the middle of a conspiracy while being hunted by the police. Sounds a little cliche to me but we’ll give IO Interactive the benefit of the doubt for now.
Hitman is a stealth game series that began with Hitman: Codename 47 in 2000. A string of sequels have been released since with the most recent being 2006’s Hitman: Blood Money, which marks the series only current generation appearance to date. Since then things had been quiet as IO Interactive developed and released Kane And Lynch: Dead Men and its sequel. There was a heavily panned film in 2007 based on the game and there had been plenty of rumours about the 5th game but it was only in May 2010 that they confirmed the game was in production. Recently the Danish developer began an ARG (Alternate Reality Game) which led to a teaser image being released from this trailer.
What are your thoughts on the return of the Hitman series? Do you think IO Interactive can redeem themselves after both Kane and Lynch games fared badly with critics and consumers?
