Save the cheerleader, save the world, but this time try not to destroy the ratings doing it…..
Further proof that it’s impossible to permanently kill a superhero, or a show about superheroes for that matter, NBC announced yesterday that “Heroes” will return to television in 2015. People watching the Winter Olympics were treated to a surprise trailer teasing the show’s return, which is now called “Heroes Reborn”, with NBC releasing a statement soon after confirming that “Heroes” will indeed be back.. The show is set to return with a 13 episode season, featuring a new cast and storyline. NBC also promises that there will be appearances by original cast members, how involved they will be with the new story is still yet to be determined.

This shows revival is surprising, but it’s not entirely shocking, “Heroes” did average 14.5 million viewers its first season. It’s subsequent season’s never matched the numbers or quality of the first, but that first season was so good that it managed to redefine what was possible with serialized television storytelling. I for one am super excited that this show about average people becoming super-powered heroes is coming back, that first season still ranks as one of my favorite television watching experiences ever. Are you as excited as I am that this X-Men esque show is rising from the ashes, or did this show fall to far from grace to be reborn? Let us know, sound off below!!!

NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke released a statement Saturday,

“The enormous impact Heroes had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening. Shows with that kind of resonance don’t come around often and we thought it was time for another installment. We’re thrilled that visionary creator Tim Kring was as excited about jumping back into this show as we were and we look forward to all the new textures and layers Tim plans to add to his original concept. Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won’t rule out the possibility of some of the show’s original cast members popping back in.”
