McCain Can’t Stop Being A Maverick, Uses Songs Without Permission
[Author’s note: We here at Media Whore Network usually don’t touch on politics, but this one’s music related, so fuck off.]
If there’s one thing I like about John McCain, it’s the fact that he’s a fucking maverick. And do you know what mavericks do? They use artists’ songs without permission, that’s fucking what. Well, he’s already used songs from, and in effect pissed off Van Halen and Heart, so who’s John upset now? That would be the Foo Fighters. Seems McCain has been using the Foo Fighters’ song “My Hero” as his current campaign theme song without talking about it with the Foo Fighters.
First off, a campaign theme song? What the fuck? These are politicians, not boxers or wrestlers. Secondly, who does the ‘hero’ in the song supposed to be referring to? McCain? So McCain is calling himself his own hero? That’s a little pompous, to say the least.
Surprisingly, the Foo Fighters aren’t taking legal action or threatening to, instead they have issued a statement that pleads “We hope that the McCain campaign will do the right thing and stop using our song — and start asking artists’ permission in general.” The letter also blasts McCain, saying “It’s frustrating and infuriating that someone who claims to speak for the American people would repeatedly show such little respect for creativity and intellectual property.”
I respect the fact that the Foo Fighters want their music to be used appropriately, but they’ve got to understand that John McCain is a motherfucking maverick, and can’t be wasting time with niceties such as “permission” and “respect for intellectual property”. Now, how long before The Who puts out a cease-and-desist for Sarah Palin using “American Woman”?
