Joseph Gordon Levitt confirmed for The Dark Knight Rises
The rumours were true, and our mancrushes are ready. He’s been in talks for a role since early February but on Friday it was confirmed that he had signed up for The Dark Knight Rises. (Juno Temple has also been cast as a ‘street-smart’ Gotham girl). Now Variety are reporting that according to insiders, Levitt will be playing the role of Alberto Falcone, son of the Mafia villian Carmine Falcone in Batman Begins (played by Tom Wilkinson). So to recap, The Dark Knight Rises will feature Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Tom Hardy as Bane and now Joseph Gordon Levitt more than likely as Albert Falcone. Now we just have to hope that the three villain curse, aka Spiderman 3, doesn’t happen here, although that’s very unlikely.
Using my infinite knowledge of comic books (aka the Internet), Alberto Falcone first featured in Batman: The Long Halloween, as a serial killer, The Holiday Killer. It is reported to be one of Nolan’s favourite Batman stories, and a lot of the themes of his Batman films have been lifted from the comic book series. It wouldn’t be surprising then if Levitt plays The Holiday Killer in The Dark Knight Rises, although Nolan may surprise us. Either way, I look forward to the final Nolan Batman film next year.
