James Reviews, Hellboy: The Storm #1
Hellboy: The Storm, represents my first foray into the Hellboy comic franchise. I’ve read many comics over the years, but have never been into a Hellboy cover before. But, as I love Dark Horse, and Hellboy is a well known and well respected franchise, I thought it was about time.
The Storm, is a small story arc, which appears to pick up where the previous arc must have left off. It sort of touch’s on events that seem pretty recent, but without having read those, I must say I am lacking in substance.
The basic premise, is that Hellboy and his companion, Alice, are traveling in England. Hellboy has pulled Arthur’s sword and is now King, and the only people who seem to know it, are the Dead Nobles who are rising from the grave.
It’s a standard 26 pages, and well drawn and inked. The story was written by Mike Mignola, and art was done by Duncan Fegredo. The styling is old school, thin lines, and heavy ink. It very much reminded me of some of the great mid-90’s comics. Some loose stylization, but pretty understandable. The action is quick, and heavy, but doesn’t start till towards the end, so make sure you stick around for the payoff.
Seeing as this is a 3 part installment; it was a great beginning. I can’t wait till the next installment comes out.
Bottom Line: $2.99/$2.99
