Time to get fancy pants on you guys, in a Sci-Fi way at least.

Titan Books was kind enough to send this our way and not only did I find myself going through the book numerous times, but so did my 4 year old. The impact of Chris Foss’s work on Science Fiction Paperback books is the stuff of legends. His contributions in the 70’s and 80’s on is really a sight to see.

I don’t know it is about his spaceships that draw me in but I can stare at them until my eyes hurt just trying to soak up every detail. It’s something about looking at his artwork that he’s done for Isaac Asimov, E. E. ‘Doc’ Smith, Arthur C. Clarke, A. E. Van Vogt and Philip K. Dick, and film design for Ridley Scott and Stanley Kubrick that just sucks you in. Why my son sat on my lap and looked at the book with he, he just kept saying “Whoa….that’s cool.” which is pretty much all I could say.

Looking at all the different artwork, I could see stories forming in my head just from what I saw. Even though I had no context as to who the art was for stories built in my head of these landscapes and starships just from looking at them. That is a sign of a true and inspirational artist.

This book is available everywhere, and will probably run you around $25 but damn, it’s worth it as a tabletop book. If you’re a fan of Sci-Fi, you just have to own this to look at his beautiful artwork.
