China’s Lunar Rover “Jade Rabbit” is in Trouble!

Decrease Font Size Increase Font Size Text Size Print This Page
Jade RabbitChina’s first lunar rover named Jade Rabbit ran into a mechanical control abnormality over the past weekend which spells doom for the little guy as it can no longer close it’s solar panels which would lead to it “freezing to death” over the lunar night that’s coming up.The lunar night is set to last 2 weeks and if it can’t operate its solar panels it’s effectively dead. As the lunar blackout period ends the rover would be rendered inoperable.

The Chinese space agency landed the Chang’e-3 probe this last December and originally planned the Jade Rabbit rover to explore the landscape for three months, but unless they get it fixed, their field trip will be cut short. Hang in there Rabbit, we’re pulling for you.
