oh man, oh man, oh man

If you were a child of the 70s or 80s then I’m sure you too must be pretty familiar with the work of Leiji Matsumoto (Galaxy Express 999, Interstella 5555, Space Battleship Yamato, etc), and if you’re not, then shame on you. But this isn’t a post about how much of an weeaboo I might be, it’s to let you all know that there’s an amazing CG version of Captain Harlock on the way. Just wait until you hear who’s all attached to it.

dude, if you don't know, how did you get this far into the post.

One of the most prolific characters from the series of space operas that Matsumoto-san created and had on television in the mid-seventies, Captain Harlock is one of those quintessential anime/manga archetypes that shaped the lives of so many of our generation. It seems we’re ready to see the captain again in 2010, thanks to Toei Animation.

So far, they’ve managed to get Harutoshi Fukui (Mobile Suit Gundam UC) to write, Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) to direct, Atsushi Takeuchi (Appleseed) for mechanical design, and Yutaka Minowa (Animatrix) to do character design. That’s one hell of a pedigree to remake a Matsumoto anime…especially one that just turned 33 years old.

There was a trailer shown at the Tokyo Anime Fair last week (sorry, no dice finding a good trailer to show here) and has me seriously fapping in my boots.
