50/50, Real Steel – Movie Mini Reviews

I went in with low expectations and left with a great feeling. Then I got bored to death. Guess which movie I’m talking about.

50/50, Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen and Anna Kendrick was actually a lot of fun to watch. Yes, even though it’s about a 27-year-old guy who learns he has a rare form of spinal cancer, and his subsequent struggle to beat the disease. You can really see the passion that went into the movie, especially for Seth Rogan who is friends with Will Reiser the guy who wrote the movie and life it’s based on. This is a movie that is really for the 25+ year old crowd that wants a good date movie but not a big “I have cancer” downer movie. The jokes are great, and honestly, I didn’t have much to complain about. Joseph Gordon-Levitt has such a feel about the character that I got sucked in, he was just phenomenal in the role and really solidified that I want to see more of him on the screen.

See 50/50 while you can, it’s well worth the movie ticket as a date, solo, or buddy movie with the guys/girls.

Real Steel, I’ll say this. The Robot boxing parts? Awesome. Hugh Jackman? Still a great actor. Everything that wasn’t robot boxing? Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz A friend of mine told me this about the movie that he took his little nephew to see opening weekend “Robot Boxing parts, he loved, everything else he was more interested in the candy we bought.” That sums Real Steel up pretty nicely.
