$1 Extra for Rock Band 3 Pro Mode Tracks – Fair or Not?

Rock Band 3, is just about 4 weeks away from release and only in the last day or so, we’ve found out from the folks at MTV and Harmonix that to download the Pro Mode for Guitar only will run you a whole $1 for each track. Yes, you read that correctly, the GUITAR TRACK ONLY will run you $1 for the Pro Mode version.

The DLC you purchase for the game online will include Pro Mode for keyboard, drums, and what have you…but only the guitar will be the one that will cost you. Here’s why.

The only thing that’s more difficult for us in terms of authoring time is the guitar stuff, so we’ve decided to sell Pro Mode for guitar separately. If you’re not interested in Pro Mode for guitar, you can still get the DLC that should conform to our current DLC pricing, and you get Pro Mode for all your other instruments.

That was MTV’s Paul DeGooyer in a recent interview with IGN. He goes on:

It’s not going to be five bucks or anything. We think it’s a really fair price,” he said. “The alternative would be of course to include it (in the regular download) and up the price for everybody, which I don’t think is really fair.

We haven’t completely worked out exactly how we would be able to get it to market, in a way that recognises people who have already purchased it, and thus be able to supply the updated file at a discount, which would be our preference.

I am not a fan of paying even more for DLC when I feel that $1.99 for individual tracks is almost too much already. I do how ever feel that it’s a fair price for essentially adding automated tableture to the game.

I want to know from you all out there in WPR land what you think of this price hike. Fair or not?
