You’re Next : Is It Worth Your Money?
You’re Next wastes little time in providing the fortunate with some pretty unfortunate circumstances, forcing fight or flight on a family and their friends during an overnight stay in a Tudor style mansion. So the question is; how would you handle uninvited houseguests? Would you ask them to kindly remove their coats and join you for a cup of tea? What if your unwelcome visitors dawned disguises of the animalistic kind and took every chance they had to eradicate your very existence? Maybe then you’d grab the nearest household appliance and explain exactly how they have screwed up the dinner party? But what if not everything was as it seemed, would you have what it takes to survive? How would you handle your own extermination?

OVERALL RATING: 8 OUT OF 10
Let’s get down to the nitty gritty. You’re Next is a well executed horror movie that outshines so many of the weak remakes, reboots, and PG-13 “bor-ror” movies we see today. It’s neither original, inventive, or well acted, but Godammit, it’s fun. A lot of fun. Honestly, it reminded me of the 80’s slasher flicks that filled my early childhood with so much joy. The gore was truly awesome and it all seemed to be practical, as opposed to CGI. That being said, while the movie was horribly predictable, I’m going to try to leave as much to the imagination as possible.
You’re Next director Adam Wingard, and writer Simon Barrett, have worked together since 2010. Their most notable collaborations have been segments in V/H/S and V/H/S 2. I’m looking forward to their next film The Guest which is currently in production.
