Evangeline Lilly and Barry Humphries are the latest additions to the large ensemble cast Peter Jackson is gathering for The Hobbit.Lilly will play a new Woodland Elf called Tauriel. The name means “Daughter Of Mirkwood” but Jackson isn’t giving anymore away on her character, other than there’s no romantic connection to Legolas, so you can’t live out your Kate Austen Will Turner fantasies.
Barry Humphries is better known as the manager of Dame Edna Everage and he’ll be in the motion capture studio ala Gollum to play the Goblin King. The two actors join the older casting announcements of Luke Evans as Bard and Benedict Cumberbatch providing the voice of Smaug the Dragon.
It’s quite a cast Peter Jackson has assembled now and the first block of shooting has finished so fingers crossed we’ll get a teaser soon. The first part of the film is out next December, with the second part in 2013.
