Xperia comes to play in America May 26th
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play has been available in the UK, Ireland, Spain and Canada since April but now the Android phone sets its eyes on America. Preorders will begin tomorrow on Verizon’s online store, and it will cost you $200 on a two year voice and data plan, which will start at $30 a month.
The Xperia Play is what you could consider to be the “Playstation Phone”. It’s an Android smartphone (running Gingerbread) that has a sliding panel underneath which reveals a Playstation style gamepad. It also contains the Playstation Suite app which allows you to buy and play available PSX games (but not PSP games). As for actual phone functions, it has a 4inch screen with a 5 megapixel camera and supports Flash player. Personally, I’d still rather have a dedicated handheld for playing portable games which require buttons, and it’s likely there’s as good as or better smartphones available for similar prices.
