Harmonix community manager Aaron Trites has confirmed initial suspicions that the Nintendo Wii versions of the Rock Band franchise will be losing access to the Rock Band Network, citing low online sales and limited demand. To those unfamiliar, the Rock Band Network is a service for musicians wishing to get their music transcribed and available for Rock Band 2 & 3, giving them full rights to their tracks and a significant cut of the profits. Since its inception, the service has provided the series with hundreds of new tracks.
The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 access to the Rock Band Network will not be effected when the Wii section shuts its doors on January 18th. Regular Wii downloadable content for the game will continue as usual.
