It’s new comic day once again for you guys in the States so here’s my pick of what to look out for this week and as always for a full release list check out the Diamond Comic shipping list here:

Y THE LAST MAN DELUXE EDITION VOL 02

ycoverIf you haven’t already picked up Y The Last Man then these hardcovers are a great place to start.  Collecting issues 11 to 23 of the popular comic, Y The Last Man tells the story of a mysterious plague that has wiped out the male population of Earth the only exception being Yorick Brown and his pet monkey Ampersand.  They embark on a journey around the world looking for Yoricks girlfriend Beth whilst trying to find out what caused the mysterious plague and surviving in a world gone mad as women try to cope in a world without men.  The book is one of the most original, interesting titles that has come out in years and now that they are collecting them in these wonderful hardcover books there really isn’t any reason not to give them a try, you won’t be disappointed.

ARMY OF DARKNESS #20

armyofdarkness-comicEveryone likes Bruce Campbell and everybody likes the Evil Dead, the popular horror film series established Sam Raimi as an amazing visual director and Bruce Campbell as the ultimate B movie hero.  They’ve been pumping out comics on a fairly regular basis for a number of years now, starting by retelling the original stories, teaming up with the survivors of the Marvel zombie universe and taking on Freddy and Jason.  They’ve moved onto original stories and issue 20 of the series sees Ash travelling to London and trying to track down Jack the Ripper.  The comics are nothing special but are good fun none the less and are worth a read if your a fan of the series.

GHOSTBUSTERS THE OTHER SIDE VOL 01

ghostbustersThe Ghostbusters are back to take on the ghosts of histories most famous gangsters in the first volume of this new series.  Everbody is geeking out over Ghostbusters at the minute, the new game looks amazing, there’s a possibility of a new film with the original cast so it seems that they can do no wrong with these popular characters.  The comic uses the likenesses of the original crew and if it manages to capture some of the wit and charm of the films then they should be onto a winner.

JESUS HATES ZOMBIES featuring LINCOLN HATES WEREWOLVES IN: YEA THOUGH I WALK…Vol. 1

jhz_lhw_coverUp until reading this weeks shipping lists I had never heard of this comic and based on the title alone I think I could become a convert and start to pick this up.  Telling the story of Jesus and a time travelling Abe Lincoln who team up to fight a post apocalyptic zombie uprising.  Genius is the only word I would use to that plot synopsis, I hope that enough people are buying this indie comic in order to keep it going, judging by the premise alone it deserves to keep running.

MARVEL ZOMBIES 4 #2

marvel_zombies4Keeping on the subject of zombies, this month sees the release of the second part of the forth series of Marvels popular zombie series.  Black Talon and his super villain syndicate are trying get hold of the zombie virus and hoping to take out the surviving superheroes in order to take control of the world.  As an alternate universe story Marvel Zombies is a lot of fun and if you don’t read any of the Marvel comics then this is a great way to get into the universe and work out which characters you like and who you want to read more about because this series features pretty much every Marvel superhero and villain.

That’s it for my picks this week, what are your picks?  Let me know here or in the forums.
