Weeaboo Wednesday – Japanese Cuisine
Being a rampant weeaboo is hard, you have to know how to open Ramune soda, you constantly long for a piece of Lotte’s BlackBlack gum, and you can never get your fill of gyoza, no matter how many they bring to you. Some of us just can’t help ourselves, we love the Japanese people so much that we’ve even decided that our shitty American cuisine just isn’t good enough.
With this thought, I figured that I’d poll the staff here at WPR and find out exactly what people say is their favorite dish in the entire repertoire of Japanese cooking. You might be shocked to find out a few.
For me it’d have to be pork tonkatsu. I love the way that the panko sets off the flavor of the meat. It’s either that or any type of sushi.
Sushi or ramen for me. Good ol’ ramen. We’re not talking shitty kinds like Cup o’ Noodle, although that is it’s own horrible type of good, but like real honest to god ramen. I’ll take that any day.
SUSHI SUSHI SUSHI SUSHI!!! You have to ask?
Being the only one here who’s been to Japan and lived there…I prefer Tokyo or Sapporo Ramen. My wife likes a good saba meal. If I were a meat eater I would go with Hakata ramen or Tonkatsu.
Short and simple answer, any hibachi grilled vegetable works just fine for me.
Hmmm only one type of food? I think my answer would have to be curry. I could eat curry everyday for the rest of my life and be completely ok with my decision. As for what types of curry, that’s open for debate but I’d have to say that my all time favorite would have to yellow curry from companies like Vermont Curry (it’s Japanese) with beef, potatoes, and carrots all served over a steaming bowl of rice.
Ok well maybe it’s not that big of a surprise that most of us Americans love sushi and ramen while a few of us like some more exquisite items…but as unexciting as they might be, they’re all delicious. Who knows maybe we share a love that you too have, let us know in the comments below!
