Relativity Media’s Immortals (Sorry we didn’t have a review, the studio pulled out of the pre-screening at the last minute) beat what everyone was thinking would happen, and took over the #1 slot over the weekend.

Leading the company to its highest box office opener as an independent distributor, taking in an estimated $32.3 million dollars in 3,112 locations in North America and $38 million dollars internationally from opening in 35 countries. It was announced today by Kyle Davies, Relativity’s President of Worldwide Distribution.

Opening last friday on 11-11-11, the film took the # 1 spot in America and became the highest R-Rated action film this year and the third highest-grossing R-rated film debut in 2011 behind The Hangover 2 ($85 million) and Paranormal Activity 3 ($52 million).
