Wanted #1

What can I say about Wanted? I am one of “Those People” (that is the way people usually say it), that LIKED the Wanted movie, I thought it was great, I enjoyed every minute of it. When I got a blu-ray player it was one of the first movies I bought. Since the day I saw the movie for the first time, I have wanted (pun intended) to read the comic. The problem is that Mark Millar and I have a love hate relationship, and I didn’t want to spend $20 on a hardcover that I will just as likely hate as like. When I heard that IMAGE was going to re-release the first issue for a buck I was very excited!

The fist issue is you basic character introduction we meet Wesley, Fox, and the Professor. Wesley is a sad sack, his girlfriend cheats on him with his best friend, his boss treats him like crap, and he spends his spare time researching anxiety disorders. We find out that Wesley’s father was a supervillan, who has just been killed; and Wesley stands to inherit everything he owned including $50 million. The catch is Wesley has to work for the Professor for six months so he can learn not to be a little bitch, and to learn how to use his super powers. The first issue ends with one of my favorite moments, when Wesley begins to realize his potential and shoots the wings off flies.

The biggest difference between the movie and the comic is the fact that the book seems to be more of a superhero book. I see the movie as more of an over the top James Bond spy thriller. As I mentioned this book was created by Mark Millar, also known for” The Ultimates” and “Kick Ass”. It’s drawn by J. G. Jones; he was nominated for an Eisner Award for his work on this series. As I mentioned this book is a buck, and how can you go wrong for a buck? Now I have to find that $20 hard cover…
