USB 3.1 Set to Run 10Gbps
Apple and Intel’s Thunderbolt just might have to take a step back for a second and share the limelight with the new fast kid on the block, USB.
While USB 3.0 has been coming regularly installed in most hardware that comes out and is decently fast at 5Gbps (Gigabit Per Second), the extra .1 has seen that speed doubled to 10Gbps.
To get that speed though you’ll have to have the newest hardware and even then there’s no guarantee that there will be products that utilize the faster 3.1 USB until next year.
Besides Apple using Thunderbolt, there hasn’t been nearly the widespread adaption that I’m sure Intel was hoping for, even though there will be a Thunderbolt 2.0 this year probably that will tout a 20Gbps speed just to make sure they’re +1 on whatever USB is offering. Competition is great for us consumers isn’t it?
