Under The Dog Anime Kickstarter Beats Goal
I’ve been following a Kickstarter campaign for an independently produced anime by Creative Intelligent Arts for a little bit now and I’m glad to report that The sci-fi title Under The Dog has met and beat it’s goal of $580,000.
The anime, which will be directed by Masahiro Ando (Blast of Tempest) and will feture a story by Jiro Ishii (428: In a Blockaded Shibuya, which received a rare 40/40 from Famitsu). For those wondering what the story is about:
Under the Dog takes place in 2025 in Neo Tokyo, five years after a devastating terrorist attack at the Tokyo Olympics. In the wake of the tragedy, the U.N. formed a covert ops unit dedicating to seeking out, then eliminating those responsible for the attack. Anthea Kallenberg, a girl of Swedish descent is a member of this elite group who has honed her combat abilities and has become a deadly assassin, but must come to terms as to who she really is.
Since they crowdfunded the solitary episode (no stretch goals were met), they will ultimately be able to keep creative control for the story meaning that if it’s a success, we should see much more IP from the Under The Dog universe.
I’ve been pretty excited to see this get funding, and I hope that post-Kickstarter they continue to raise money to make a full series as I really dig the universe they’re establishing. It has that mid 1990s anime feel about it that I love so much.
