Total Recall Remake Might Not Be on Mars

We’ve learned two very interesting things about the Columbia remake of Philip K. Dick’s We Can Remember It for You Wholesale. The first is that the dad from Malcolm in the Middle will be the villain, and the other…well you can read the headline yourself.

Yes you read that right, Bryan Cranston from such shows as Breaking Bad and Malcolm in the Middle is set to play the villainous Vilos Cohaagen and will be acting alongside with Colin Farrell as Douglas Quaid, but if you’ve read the site before you might remember that we already covered Farrell being picked.

All of the new information about the Total Recall reboot being directed by Len Wiseman is courtesy of THR. From their article we’ve grabbed the following:

The new story involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai, with Douglas Quaid (Farrell) a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy, although he doesn’t know for which side. Cranston would play Vilos Cohaagen, the leader of Euromerica who, under the cover of protecting his people, is secretly readying an invasion of New Shanghai.

You’ll notice that there’s no mention of the planet Mars in all of that. I personally don’t care if the movie is based on Mars…but what I am hoping for is that we get at least some of the other stuff that made the first movie so memorable (crossing my fingers for a three-breasted mutant).

What do you all think, can this movie have legs when it’s not on Mars?
