Things Don’t Look Good for Akira Remake

I know that we tend to avoid that ‘hive-mind’ mentality when it comes to movies and anime here at WPR, but I’m certain that we’re in perfect harmony here in our thinking of Akira (the manga and anime) does not need to be made into a live-action movie for American release.

Whether Warner Bros. knows it or not, nobody seems to be fighting each other over roles in the 2013 $250 million budgeted film. Just take the list of fallen stars so far as an example.

  • Garrett Hedlund
  • Michael Fassbender
  • Chris Pine
  • Justin Timberlake
  • Joaquin Phoenix
  • Keanu Reeves

    Tetsuo

  • Robert Pattinson
  • Andrew Garfield
  • James McAvoy

Hey WB…you know, for a movie that originally took place in Neo Tokyo and is now going to be happening in Neo American Metropolis, you COULD pick some relatively unknown talent or maybe a few Asian actors for the starring roles. It wouldn’t kill you to do that would it?
