The Witcher 3 Confirmed for PlayStation 4
Why didn’t they announce this yesterday?
While we had suspicions that the game would be released on the system given this month’s reveal of an “all high-end platforms available” release, CD Projekt RED confirmed today that they were among the developers offered early access PlayStation 4 hardware.
In fact, CD Projekt RED head Adam Badowki has revealed that they have been working hard to push the PlayStation 4 hardware to its limits stating:
“We are able to work with the new console from its birth and this allows our in-house REDengine 3 to push the graphical limits of what the PlayStation hardware can display. The console is fresh and has some innovative solutions that we’re looking forward to using in our game.”
While first-party titles always tend to look amazing early in a system’s life, it’s very rare to see a third-party willing and able to push the system to its limits until a few years have passed. This is not because of lack of ambition, but rather a short period of time to work with green hardware. Sony, as they stated yesterday in the PlayStation Meeting, has been working with developers for the past few years, so it’s likely that they have been able to gain an understanding of architecture very early on.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be released simultaneously on PlayStation 4 and PC in the 2014 release window.
