Warner Bros have officially announced that Inception cast members Joseph Gordon Levitt and Marion Cotillard will be reuniting with Christopher Nolan for The Dark Knight Rises, but the casting announcement contradicts earlier rumours about who they would play.

Firstly we thought we were 99% sure that Gordon-Levitt would be Alberto Falcone, but it turns out he plays “John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon.”

As for Cotillard, it was rumoured that she would play Talia al Ghul, daughter of the villain of Batman Begins, Ras al Ghul. Here, the press release says that she plays “Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham.”

Of course, is just Nolan being as dastardly as ever and trying to lead us off the track? There’s every chance these characters could still be the two mentioned Batman villains under disguises, especially since they’re characters created specifically for the film. Even if it is true, our skepticism will only create more discussion about it and that’s precisely what Nolan will want in the lead up to the film’s July 20th release next year. Well played Nolan.
