Sayonara iPhone – Part I

by under READ on Feb 4th
You might recall recently that I have planned on switching from my trusty Apple iPhone, which I’ve been using since 2008 and has been by my side for the birth of all three of my children, to an unknown world of Android OS on a Samsung Galaxy Note II. Today I bring you the first steps in this journey.

by under FEATURED on Apr 29th
Sure, they might call themselves “AAA titles”, but they aren’t fooling anyone.

Geeks and Jocks have more in common than you may think

by under READ on Jul 9th
I’ve been a geek for most of my life, but I’ve been a sports fan for far longer. Many of the earliest memories I have come from watching superhero cartoons on TV as well as watching some of the most important NBA games in the history of the game. I love seeing what happens with the Utah Jazz almost as much as I like catching the next season of “Mad Men” or “Dexter”. I anticipate each...

RANT – 3 little things I wish they’d add to games

by under FEATURED on Mar 9th
I’ve been thinking lately about the things that make a video game experience a nice one.  Yes, all the amazing graphics, cinematics, gripping story, and characters we connect to are very important.  So much so that sometimes they put so much focus on those things that they forget a few little things here and there.

Tech Rant: Bye Bye Mozy.

by under READ on Feb 2nd
Backups. We all know what they are, and yet only a few of us really use them. I was among those who really didn’t care. This is ironic, since my entire business career revolves around the importance of backups. And while it has been important for me to identify the necessity of backups for others; for myself I haven’t really been too concerned. Nothing worth saving. Well, until I had a kid a few years ago. Before...

Why We Will be Watching ‘V’ *Spoilers*

by under READ, WATCH on Jan 6th
My TV schedule was once a long list of shows that I HAD to watch every week. Since this fall, I think I have deleted about half of the timers off of my DVR. Most were shows that I had to watch every week, but this year, I just feel different. I don’t care anymore. I have my 5 or so shows now that are “mine” on the DVR. V is one of them.

OLD =/= BAD

by under FEATURED, READ on Dec 8th
How many people here still watch movies from when they were kids? A lot of you? A few of you? Doesn’t really matter for this piece because I simply want to put you all into the way-back machine to blow the lid off of this current trend of hating on old media simply because it’s not new. I hear on a weekly basis that game x hasn’t held up very well and how movie y looks dated, or what have you and I can’t...

Quentin Tarantino Speaks Out Against CGI

by under WATCH on Oct 12th
Not one to stay quiet (especially in his movies), Quentin Tarantino strongly voiced his opinion on Hollywood’s current trend of heavy CGI films, calling them the “death knell of cinema”. Fair enough, Tarantino, as this seems most evident in the rise of cheaply made derivative talking animal films. Then, in typical Tarantino fashion, he related the experience to sticking his “dick in a Nintendo”. This...

Dragon Age: Origins DLC– The Golems of Amgarrak Review

by under PLAY on Sep 14th
So yeah, I’m a fairly big Dragon Age fan, I love the game and can’t wait for the sequel. That’s why you wouldn’t believe my surprise when I found out that a new DLC campaign: Golems of Amgarrak was released. It’s just too bad my surprise DLC turned out to be one of the most challenging and annoying chunks of content I have ever experienced in a BioWare game.

Bungie Should Blame Themselves for Halo Reach Leak

by under PLAY on Aug 23rd
IGN reported earlier today that Microsoft are “aggressively” investigating the claims of hackers cracking the special Halo:Reach download currently on the Xbox Live Marketplace. While it was put there to buy at the cheap price of 99999MSP, it can only be downloaded with a special code, given to game reviewers. In the mean time, Bungie moderators have warned fans to go in the dark for the mean time until the...

VG247 posts GTA V “rumour”, various outlets take the bait

by under PLAY on Jul 26th
It seems not one day goes when there is not a rumour floating around about a particular developer, publisher or figure within the gaming industry. Today is one of those days, with this claim that the next GTA game will be set in Hollywood. This is all started with a post on VG247 which quite frankly, could be a complete fabrication. There are not even claims of sources. It is what appears to be a fake conversation about...

The Spike VGAs, or how I wasted two hours of my life.

by under PLAY, READ on Dec 13th
Well, my expectations of the VGAs weren’t even high to begin with. A respectable video game award show is far from happening, the closest we have being the videogame BAFTAs over here in Blighty. However, lapdog Geoff Keighley was claiming that there were 12 exclusive reveals at the show, such as the first look at Halo Reach and Prince Of Persia: The Forgotten Sands as well as games we hadn’t even seen yet....

How Xtival is like Mr.Bumble In Oliver Twist

by under READ on Nov 28th
(This article going up recently is purely coincidence) – Gibbo :) Every year in Europe, Microsoft host their annual Xtival “festival”. For one weekend, Xbox Live Gold is free to anyone. Not only that but there are game competitions for some of the biggest titles around right now as well deals on films to watch and music videos from some of the “biggest” bands in the world. What could possibly...

by under WATCH on Jul 31st
Today, Kenji Kamiyama, director of such anime as Blood: The Last Vampire, Ghost In The Shell: SAC, and Eden of the East, announced that Eden of the East will have a compilation film released a month before the movie sequel. For those who don’t know, Eden of the East was a total sleeper hit from the spring that came out of nowhere. There was some hype, but Eden of the East went above and beyond, making it one...

Are Gamers Beginning To Become Biased Against Any Game With Hype?

by under PLAY on Mar 26th
Back in the days when the Internet wasn’t as mainstream as it is today, most people’s only source of gaming news then was through popular gaming magazines such as Gamesmaster and Mean Machines over here or the likes of the former EGM and Nintendo Power in the States. This usually meant that games wouldn’t really get any hype because all a game’s PR company could offer was an advert or later on...

Shitcanned: The Gandysampras Story

by under Uncategorized on Jan 14th
So for the last couple of months I’ve been working for a large company in  their telesales department, shilling their insurance products to existing customers. I know what you’re thinking, worst job ever, I must have little to no soul left and be a horrible person. To an extent you were right, I didn’t realise until the end of last week when I got fired how bad I had actually had it. For the full story...

If The Likes Of Bioshock And Braid Are Recognised As Games As Art, Then Why Isn’t Oddworld?

by under PLAY on Jan 10th
I love the Oddworld universe. It’s a beautiful, original world that’s full of life and leaves plenty of room for expansion. I also like the Bioshock universe. It’s a beautiful, original world that’s full of life and leaves plenty of room for expansion. The difference being between these two games is that Bioshock gained critical acclaim and looks set to become a big universe where as the Oddworld...

I Tried To Enjoy Sonic Unleashed, I Really Did

by under PLAY, READ on Dec 30th
I finally bit. In mid December UK gaming retailer Gamestation offered Sonic Unleashed at half price for one week only as part of their Christmas sale. So the price was only £20. I had money and I’d actually heard good things about Sonic’s latest adventure. I’d also heard some bad things but at £20 I was thinking that It’s probably worth it at half it’s normal price just to experience these...

Demo Daze: Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

by under Uncategorized on Nov 5th
Remember looking back on games you played when you were a kid and you think back to how awesome they are? There are a select few that even when you go play them again when you are older and wiser they are still just as awesome, well for me the Banjo-Kazooie series is one of these select few. I remember the first time I played Banjo-Kazooie on my N64 I was amazed and enthralled, I could not put the game down. I was...
