Blargh! X-Men Arcade Coming to PSN, XBLA

by under PLAY on Oct 11th
The classic quarter-eater, X-Men, is coming back, and unlike some recent releases that I dare not mention will remain relatively untouched. The game will remain a six-player ordeal and will support both local and online multiplayer (due to hardware limitations, the Xbox Live Arcade version will be limited to 4 locally, but the remaining slots can be filled by online players). In addition to the online multiplayer, the...

Your First Look at Vanquish

by under PLAY on Jan 29th
Details are pretty thin right now, but Vanquish is the child of Shinji Mikami, the creator behind Resident Evil series. It takes place in a somewhat futuristic Earth and it involves a guy in a powered suit (ala Iron Man) kicking ass for the good ol’ US of A.

A Weird Kid’s Top 10 — Arcade Beat ‘Em Ups

by under PLAY, READ on Nov 23rd
If there’s one genre of games I think is getting the shaft over and over again that made me fall in love with gaming in the first place, it would have to be the beat ‘em ups. These games were just notorious for eating a roll of quarters faster than a German in a Mentos commercial. The funniest thing is that many of us didn’t seem to mind doing so. I wince when I think of all the cash that I’ve...

by under WATCH on Oct 22nd
(Editors note: This article contains minor spoilers for Up In The Air, all of which can be found after the jump) Today I was lucky enough to head down to London to the BFI London Film Festival to attend an early screening of JasonReitman’snew film Up In The Air which has quickly become one of the best films I’ve seen all year.  Starring GeorgeClooney, Anna Kendrick and VeraFarmiga, Up In The Air tells the...

Up in the Air – Teaser Trailer

by under WATCH on Sep 9th
The teaser trailer for Jason Reitmans new movie Up in the Air has just become my favorite trailer of the year.  Starring George Clooney and based on Walter Kims 2001 novel, Up in the Air tells the story Ryan Bingham, a corporate downsizing expert whose cherished life on the road is threatened just as he is on the cusp of reaching ten million frequent flyer miles and just after he’s met the frequent-traveler woman...

The Men Who Stare At Goats – Trailer

by under WATCH on Aug 28th
I’m a massive fan of George Clooney, especially when he does quirky off-beat comedy and his latest film; The Men Who Stare Goats.  Based on Jon Ronson’s  book, Cloonet stars alongside Ewan McGregor, Jeff Bridges and Kevin Spacey in this true story of a reporter who is chasing after a crazy story. U.S. Army First Earth Battalion unit member Lyn Cassady (Clooney) claims to be part of an experimental U.S. military...

Survival Of The Dead Premieres At This Year’s Fantastic Fest

by under WATCH on Aug 10th
While Diary of the Dead may have been a bit iffy, George A.Romero knows how to make an entertaining zombie film which isn’t surprising since he arguably brought the modern zombie to film with Night of the Living Dead. Now it seems he’s finally ready to show off his new project as Survival of the Dead will premiere at this year’s Fantastic Fest along Zombieland, which most of us at MWN headquarters are...

Next Left 4 Dead DLC Announced, Not So Free On Xbox 360

by under PLAY on Aug 4th
Whether you think they were pressured by the L4D2 complainers or not, Valve have announced the next instalment of DLC for L4D1. The new campaign will be entitled “Crash Course” and takes place between the end of “No Mercy” and the beginning of “Death Toll”, although this confuses me since I thought that all of the campaigns were their own separate stories and not connected. It will...

The Fantastic Mr Fox – Trailer

by under WATCH on Jul 30th
The trailer for Wes Anderson’s new film, The Fantastic Mr Fox has split the film community down the middle.  Some people have embraced the quirkiness of the stop motion animation and realise that this is Wes Anderson and he never does ‘normal’ whereas others are calling the film unsophisticated with animation that looks like it’s from a 15 year old Wallace and Gromit short.  Personally I think...

Where’s The Game Going, Bingo? Resident Evil 4 On App Store Then Pulled

by under PLAY on Jul 14th
First off, the news about a mobile port of Resident Evil 4 isn’t new, (quite the contrary: we’ve known about a mobile version since 2007) but what we didn’t know was that it would end up on the iPhone, or at least it would for a brief time. According to the Japanese site Appbank (and Babelfinullinullation) There’s an iPhone version of Resi 4 that has apparently been pulled. No word from Capcom...

It Came from Obscurity: Heavy Metal’s B-17

by under READ, WATCH on Jul 13th
Welcome back to It Came from Obscurity, a regular feature where I adopt a poor neglected movie, then proceed to parade it around for your amusement.  This week’s selection may come as a surprise to you.  Many people have heard of this film, and those who hadn’t learned of its existence through an episode of South Park a season back. But how many of you truly watched it?… That’s what I thought. Those...

Summer of the Dead – X Files: Millennium

by under READ, WATCH on Jul 8th
Before my love affair with Lost began, the X Files was the TV show that really captured my heart and we couldn’t really do this Summer of the Dead feature without talking a show that is steeped in supernatural phenomenon. There are several episodes throughout the shows 9 season run that feature the undead but my personal favourite is the season 7 episode;Millennium. Millennium is a very special episode because it...

George Clooney to be the new Jack Ryan?

by under WATCH on Jul 7th
Why have they not though of this casting before?  Paramount are trying to relaunch Tom Clancy’s iconic character and it was originally thought that they would be casting a younger actor in the role so they could release a film every couple of years.  Our friends over at Empire Online are reporting that George Clooney is said to have taken an active interest in playing the role which for me is an absolutely perfect...

Summer Of The Dead: Spaced Series 1 “Art”

by under READ, WATCH on Jul 6th
Spaced itself is a great comedy, but it hasn’t really got anything to do with zombies. Except for the episode “Art”. This is the episode which inspired Shaun Of The Dead although Spaced’s writing style and humour also came off in Shaun Of The Dead. This will be only a short piece (because I’m in a bit of a writing block right now) but here’s my look at episode 3 of series 1 of Spaced,...

Dead Island still coming

by under PLAY on Jul 6th
Techland, who have just released the critically acclaimed Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood have released a statement this morning regarding the development of their other property, Dead Island.  After hearing about this game ages ago and then it all going quiet I’d assumed that the game had been condemned to development hell but not according to this statement by Techland’s Blazej Krakowiak: “All we are allowed...

RAGE: Resident Evil 4th Movie Confirmed

by under WATCH on Jul 3rd
Paul Anderson made Mortal Kombat, one of the 90s best unintentional comedies. When I say that I mean that it was so bad it was good. Even Resident Evil wasn’t THAT bad, but then Paul Anderson ended up making two sequels, both of which were abominations. Even though Resident Evil: Mad Max Extinction was meant to be the last movie, it was left on a cliffhanger and now Hollywood wants to make me rage yet again by...

Summer of the Dead – Resident Evil: Caliban Cove

by under READ on Jul 2nd
I’ve never really been into the novelisations of games or films, normally I’d just assume that they had been written by some cheap hack author and then pumped out for as cheap as possible to make as much money as they can for whatever product they are tied too.  Being a massive Resident Evil fan I decided to throw caution to wind and went out a picked up the entire series of novelised versions games written...
