If Futurama Characters Existed in Meatspace

by under WATCH on Aug 5th
There’s something disturbing about seeing real life representations of characters that we take for granted in animated form and it seems that it’s Futurama’s turn.

Hobbittsss! Appreciate This ART Lord of the Rings Fans

by under READ on May 12th
I can still paint a vivid imagining of what Hobbiton looked like in my head when I first poured over the Lord of the Rings books, the movie helped frame it somewhat but master world builder Tolkien did it for me the first time. At least now we can take a look at and BUY some concept art done by the guys at Weta Workshop.

Video Games Officially Recognised As Art In The US

The hipsters of the US would wipe away the tears falling onto their thick rimmed glasses and wine glasses with their berets if tears of joy weren’t so mainstream.

Starcraft + Papercraft = Papercraft…?

There is a place, a place where people who’s eyes are not like ours. A place where the language is vastly different to ours. This place is oceans away, and they really really like Starcraft.

Interview With Joe Eisma, Artist of Images Morning Glories

by under FEATURED on Apr 28th
Yesterday I got my first taste of the Morning Glories comic with issue number 9, got mad that I waited so long to dive into the series and spent the afternoon hunting down the first 8 issues. To make up for my lack of insight, Joe Eisma, the artist for the series was kind enough to talk with us so that I could make myself feel better about being so late to his amazing work!

Girl complains and gets some sweet swag from Visceral Games

by under PLAY, READ on Feb 3rd
What would you do if your dog knocked over your 360 or PS3 and damaged whatever game you were playing at the time of the incident? Would you curse at the dog? Maybe you would cry or maybe you would just stare in disbelief. This happened recently to a girl named Ashley who was apparently a pretty big Dead Space fan. What she chose to do, was tweet about her misfortune and her pain did not go unfelt. Visceral Games’...

Book Review: The Art of Drew Struzan

by under READ on Sep 27th
I don’t know anything about movie poster art, art in general or am much of an artist myself, obviously. I do have to say, that I am very glad to have come across this book, and learn from what seems to be a dieing breed. Drew Struzan has worked on some of the most iconic movie posters that you can remember. As I turned the pages I was brought back in time to some of the movies that I loved during my childhood, and...

The Concept Art of Halo: Reach

by under PLAY on Jan 27th
I’m probably one of the few remaining Bungie fans out there (hyperbole FTW) after a good chunk of the gaming world, who has followed the Halo saga since the olden days of Combat Evolved, fell off the bandwagon with ODST. If you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t heard yet, Reach will be the last of the Bungie-crafted Halo games. After this one, creation of further Halo games goes to Microsoft developer...

Videogame Art – James Barnetts Fauxvism

by under READ on Jun 24th
I love it when I stumble across really good videogame art and James Barnetts Fauxvism series is no exception.  Rather than using screenshots he found online as a reference, he played the games until he found a composition he liked, then he painted it.  I’m overjoyed that he included scenes from Fallout 3 and Half Life 2 which are two of my favorite games and I’m looking forward to seeing what he does next. ...

If The Likes Of Bioshock And Braid Are Recognised As Games As Art, Then Why Isn’t Oddworld?

by under PLAY on Jan 10th
I love the Oddworld universe. It’s a beautiful, original world that’s full of life and leaves plenty of room for expansion. I also like the Bioshock universe. It’s a beautiful, original world that’s full of life and leaves plenty of room for expansion. The difference being between these two games is that Bioshock gained critical acclaim and looks set to become a big universe where as the Oddworld...
