Syndicate Remake Will Be a First Person Shooter

I hate to be THAT gamer, but after reading the leaked information about the EA reboot of the Syndicate franchise (which hasn’t seen a new game in over 14 years), I’ve just about lost hope for gaming remakes of classic PC game series.

The biggest issue I have with this game’s reboot is that they plan on making it an action shooter, ditching the game’s real-time tactical and strategy game roots. I don’t think that it’s the most horrible thing that EA could do, but in a world that is already flooded with first-person and third-person shooters, do we really need another classic series re-inventing itself as a generic genre game?

Oh wait, they did that with series like X-Com and Fallout didn’t they? I know that Fallout landed on its feet and seeing how the developer for the Syndicate game will be Starbreeze (makers of the Riddick games as well as The Darkness), it might turn out alright…but I’m not holding my breath.

I can understand wanting to use an IP that is already established and packed to the gills with massive fanboys, but I don’t see why they wouldn’t decide to just create something new rather than slap the Syndicate name on the box. All I know is that I’d better be able to ‘persuade’ people into being my human shields and be able to spend cash on R&D to build Gauss guns and miniguns.

I see the potential for this game to be a blast, but I will withhold judgment until I see something more substantial than some leaked pics. It deserves that much from me and the rest of the world.

Any additional information for the game can be found over at NeoGAF which is where we snagged the screenshots above.
