Semi-official confirmation has been made that Planet of the Apes part 2 is moving forward. The confirmation came in the form of Andy Serkis signing on for another film in the series.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes, perhaps the most ‘of’ filled title of all time, was a decent enough movie. If you saw it you were probably impressed with the excellent blending of CGI, digital matte work, and live action. They were woven together in one of (if not the) most well crafted CGI assisted films of all time. The story was good, but not great, and if you made it all the way to the ending credits, you know what the premise will be for the pending sequel.
With Serkis signing on the reprise his role of Caesar, we know a few key things. First, that this film takes place some time during Caesar’s normal life time. Second, assuming the first is true, then this film will largely be focused on the spreading pandemic, and the actual rise of the Apes into a community, lead by Caesar.
We don’t know yet if James Franko will be returning to his role of Will Rodman, because Franko has a VERY full slate with no less than 6 films in production and pre-production between now and then end of 2012. So if Franko returns, you can anticipate that the ‘Planet of the Apes’ (speculative title) will be released some time in 2013.
/lots of speculations abound, since this is still really early in the game.
