will Tron the Betrayal will finally tell us why Clu 2.0 is in charge?

Disney is no slouch when it comes to marketing, they are the epitome of the word merchandizing and can make just about anything you could ever want with a character from one of their movies on it. I’m usually not a fan of that kind of OBVIOUS marketing, but I do love it when we get expanded universe storylines that can tie different movies together. That’s what we’re getting from Marvel/Disney this October.

Titled Tron: The Betrayal, we’ll finally get a story to fill in the near 30 year gap between the original film and the one hitting theatres this December.

The storytelling picks up in the aftermath of Walt Disney Pictures’ first film in its franchise TRON. Kevin Flynn is now in charge of Encom, the world’s largest video game company. Kevin, a break-through game developer, has built the Grid, a digital world filled with living programs. This new virtual world is about to develop a life of its own and, in order to control it, Flynn’s going to need to help of an old friend…named Tron.

The story is being handled by Jai Nitz with inks by Andie Tong, and will be a two part miniseries that will be a must have for Tron geeks like me.

As for the Retcon Alert titling this post, you can essentially toss out the Tron 2.0 game and the comics that followed its protagonist Jet Bradley (Tron: Ghost in the Machine). It’s too bad, because I have both and I’m going to be sad that they’re no longer canon…or are they?!?
