If you’re in need of some Ganado and Majini killing on your new and shiny Nintendo 3DS, then you only have to wait until June 2nd.

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D will be available on that day in Japan for ¥4,800, which is about $59/£37/42 Euros. This information comes from the latest issue of Famitsu magazine, a Japanese gaming publication.

The feature in Famitsu also reveals two new characters that will be available in the game. One is Jill Valentine, former STARS member, a main character in Resident Evil 1,3 and 5 and the “master of unlocking”. Weapons wise she uses machine guns and shotguns and at close range, knives and high kicks.

The other character is the series’ primary antagonist, Albert Wesker. He’s a more powerful character than Jill and uses magnums and shotguns. I also assume because of his virus he’ll have plenty of Matrix style kicks and punches.

Finally, a section on the game’s co-op mode reveals that it will be playable both offline and online.

Not to be confused with other upcoming 3DS title Resident Evil: Revelations, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D is a Nintendo 3DS exclusive that is based on the mode of the same name that originated in Resident Evil 3.

It is basically an arcade mode where you fight against an infinite number of increasingly difficult enemies while trying to rack up as many points as you can. The game begins with a 5 minute time limit but there are hourglasses and other bonuses across the maps that will add time and score multipliers so you can get a higher score. At the end of a game you are graded on your performance, based on the number of points you scored.

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D appears to reuse many of the maps that originally featured in the Mercenaries modes of Resident Evil 4 and 5 and includes a number of different characters from the Resident Evil universe. Aside from Jill and Wesker, previously confirmed characters are Chris and Claire Redfield, Krauser and HUNK.
