UPDATE: Resi 4/Code Veronica HD Collection confirmed.
UPDATE: Capcom have confirmed today that Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica Director’s Cut will be getting HD re-releases on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.In Japan, the games will be available as a bundle. In North America however, both games will be released separately as downloadable titles. Both games will be out some time during the fall.
I was just talking on Tuesday about how it’s been 15 years since the birth of the Resident Evil franchise, so to see some more Resident Evil games announced, remakes though they may be, is no surprise. Resident Evil 4 is especially not surprising, given that it’s quite rightly one of the most popular games in the series and all a HD upscale would need is some slightly nicer textures, given how well that game’s graphics have aged.
Code Veronica is a stranger choice though. Despite being one of the main games in the series, it’s still obscure compared to the numbered games and has already been released again before on PS2 and Gamecube. That being said, with the availability of the first three games on Playstation Network, it’s one of the few games that’s harder to access these days.
Personally I’d like to see some HD re-releases of Resident Evil 1 and Resident Evil Zero. With reworked backgrounds, especially with today’s technology, they would look even more beautiful. In a perfect world Capcom would put that level of care they put into the Gamecube Resident Evil games into a HD remake of Resident Evil 2 or 3, but that’s just daydeaming.
I’m definitely buying both games anyway. Resident Evil 4 is so damn good (and better than its sequel) that I will willingly double dip with it.
