It’s with a heavy heart that I report today that one of the most influential people in technology has passed away.
Dennis Ritchie succumbed to his long illness this past weekend at the ripe age of 70. Without his contributions to the advancement of computers, who knows where we would be today. Most of today’s current technology is either based upon or influenced by his work in the C programming language or the Unix operating system. That shiny iPhone in your pocket has definitely felt his contribution, as the interface was built around Unix and the apps are likely coded in Objective-C (a “spinoff” of the C language if you will).
printf(“You will be missed, Dennis Ritchie.”);
