While the first person shooter market has been oversaturated for quite some time now, Starbreeze Studios’ adaptation of Image Comics’ The Darkness stood out with its unique storyline, interesting play mechanics, and excellent voice work by singer Mike Patton of Faith No More and Mr. Bungle fame. Now, after four years and two Bioshocks, 2K Studios is ready to give us a sequel!

The sequel will, however, not be helmed by the Starbreeze Studios crew. Instead, we’ve Unreal Tournament co-creator Digital Extremes. As expected, besides the above screenshot, we currently know little to nothing about what to expect in this sequel, besides the fact that protagonist Jackie Estacado is now the Don of the Franchetti crime family, there is a mob war brewing, and that the motivations of “The Darkness” will come to fruition.

The Darkness 2 is set to be released in Fall of this year for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
