People Can Fly Veterans Introduce Debut Game of New Studio
The Astronauts have officially launched!
Former members of People Can Fly, the studio that brought us the Painkiller games and Bulletstorm, have finally lifted the veil off of their unique first game: The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. The horror movie style title is more than just coincidence, as the game will take heavy influence by the niche genre known as weird fiction (a style that encompasses the works of such literary greats such as H.P. Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard).
The Astronauts (which is seriously the name of the new studio) claim that The Vanishing of Ethan Carter will be like nothing they’ve created before, focusing more on exploration and discovery and bringing gameplay down to its basics so as to not break the immersion. If I had to guess what that all means, I would wager that the game will play more like Dear Esther than Silent Hill.
Enough talk, here’s a first look at the new game.
More details on The Vanishing of Ethan Carter can be found on The Astronauts’ official page in the upcoming days. While you’re there, be sure to check out “Gamers are the Ultimate Trolls” for an interesting look at why AAA titles take so much time and money to develop. The Vanishing of Ethan Carter will release for PC via digital distribution later this year.
